How to Sew Without a Needle ( You Never Knew)

New Technologies. We Sew Without a Needle!

Thread and needles help people sew things. But new technology can make that easier, like sewing machines.

There are many uses for thread and needles. You can sew on a button with a needle or you can use thread to sew seams on a sewing machine or to fix your pants if they get torn. There is now technology that doesn’t require thread at all – they use lasers to fix your clothes.

These include laser and thermal processing, the use of ultrasound, and sealing technology. All of them allow you to achieve excellent results when processing any type of workwear.

Seam sealing technology is designed to make them water resistant. We have a special way to make coats and jackets water resistant. When it rains, the water will stay outside of them instead of getting inside them and making them sticky.

The best way to protect the seams of clothing is to use a special tape. This tape does not get damaged by heat.

Ultrasound is another great substitute for a needle and thread. It allows you to connect fabrics by thermal welding.

A special ultrasonic knife cuts the treated surfaces, processing the internal elements. The result is a sealed seam. Then it is subjected to the procedure of gluing with tapes using a press.

Needles Out! 4 Accessories to Knit Using Only Your Hands

One of the things for which, perhaps, we do not fully encourage ourselves to learn the art of sewing are needles, a tool that requires precise skill when it comes to braiding or sewing anything. In addition, the needles demand precision when different types of fabrics are used, such as the different thicknesses of the threads, or the different hooks suitable for each task.

Despite this, an interesting and particularly original way to create some of your own clothes is to learn how to knit using only your hands. This method has been practiced by many people around the world in different forms, and it usually consists in learning how to make knots with our fingers that we can use later as knitting needles.

Learning this kind of craft can be very useful if you live far away from a town or a village where you could buy basic items such as sweaters or scarves. Indeed, making these objects could be very useful in case you are camping outdoors or living in a place where there isn’t always easy access to stores selling knitted items.

We present a technique for which no special type of crochet is necessary, a fun way of knitting in which your arms and hands will be the protagonists and responsible for your work.

And the truth is that the result can be equally spectacular. Here we show you six of the many accessories that you can make.

1. Pet Collars and Beds

Horizontal

The collar is the part that stands out the most in any of your pet’s outfits. A wide variety of brands and models are used for dogs and cats, but there is no reason to go to a store. The most essential thing is to be careful with choosing materials so that they are durable, washable, and can withstand strong pulls from your pet.

And even a bed! It is only necessary for a model of XXL and fat thread so that the result is the closest thing.

2. XXL Crochet Blankets and Cushions

Vertical

Like the blankets, these fluffy cushions made with our hands are the perfect complement for resting our feet or heads. There are various shapes, and these round ones are also ideal as decorative accessories.

There are many reasons why we would like to have a crocheted blanket: it’s warm and comfortable, you can use it in any season of the year, it makes us feel good, it’s perfect for relaxing at home with a good book…

The thread used to make maxi-blankets can be 100% sheep wool; It is an extra soft fabric that will keep us warm this winter.

In order to crochet a maxi-blanket, you need to know how to crochet a circle.

3. Sweaters and Scarves

Vertical

Winter is here, and there is no doubt that you are looking for a new sweater and a scarf that will keep you warm. There are two options: buy them or make them.

You can always find a scarf or a sweater in any store. You can also easily get them online, but if you go looking for the perfect fit, it can be hard to find something that fits you well. Most of us have sweaters or scarves that were given to us as gifts and that either don’t fit or are just not our style. If you want to avoid this, all you need is a ball of wool. This is the perfect opportunity to use your old clothes and make something new with them!

4. Alfombras y Tapetes

Horizontal

The rugs and carpets are present in every home. However, although we are accustomed to seeing them, many of us do not know how they are made.

Sometimes it’s worth it to take a few minutes to make something with our own hands, and we can’t think of a better way than to create a rug or carpet for our home. With just a little effort, we can make a unique piece that will be the envy of everyone who visits and that we will enjoy for many years.

How to Join the Pieces of Your Work Without a Wool Needle

Image: photo-1.jpg

Surely, as a good knitter, who goes everywhere with his project under his arm, at some point you have forgotten to put a wool needle in your bag to put the finishing touches on your garment. Don’t worry, in this post we present a quick solution to make those seams that you are missing with a very everyday accessory that we always carry in some corner of our bag: a hairpin.

Image: photo-2.jpg

For this step-by-step, we are going to use: one of ouPima cotton balls and our 5mm beechwood knitting needles.

We will also need, of course, a hair clip. The smaller you can get it the better, it will be more manageable when sewing.

Before we start, we remind you of the most important points you should know:

As always when we are going to sew our garments, place the two pieces next to each other.

“Thread” the hairpin by inserting the cotton thread through the end of it, as if it were a needle.

Before starting the seam: secure the yarn in one of the pieces by inserting the tip of the bobby pin into the fabric. It should stay as you see in the photo above.

To prevent the thread from coming loose while you sew, tie a small knot. You will do the final auctions when you have a needle at hand but, provisionally, we will leave it that way.

Once we have done the previous step, we are going to start sewing the two pieces.

A tip that can help you make the seam with the fork is to insert it through the fabric from the side, so that you can see the two points in front of you.

Image: photo-10.jpg

It will also help you to close the tip of the fork a little so that it is as flat as possible and does not remain open. That way it won’t catch on the fabric.

Little by little you will sew your two pieces and the side seam will be the same as if you did it with a wool needle. We hope that this post will be useful to you, we will be delighted to see how you put it into practice through social networks with the hashtag #weareknitters.

If There Is a Hole in the Clothes

The most typical reason for sewing without a needle or thread is the tiny holes in the fabric which are created after washing in the washer or because of negligence.

If the hole isn’t patched, the clothes appear sloppy, and the fabric could be prone to unraveling. Particularly with warp-knitted fabric tiny holes will soon result in major damages that are not repaired.

To fix small damages, powder for sewing is sprayed on the back of the fabric. This is then fixed using an iron. Make sure to put a soft cotton cloth between the fabric and the iron.

The typical time for heating is anywhere between a few seconds to a couple of minutes, an iron that is not properly protected can also cause harm to clothe.

The duration of heating and the temperature of ironing is dependent on the materials used to make the garment.

The precise information should be synchronized with the care instructions and the instructions provided by the manufacturer.

You Don’t Need a Needle to Knit by Hand

Needles are also not required so that the thread of woolen parts that have been hand-knitted can be sewn together.

With this technique, the individual stitches are so large that a thread can easily be pulled through the stitches.

The hand knitting process is used for scarves and hats, but also for home textiles such as blankets.

Tears Can Be Sewn with the Textile Glue

Textile glue is a special kind of glue that can be used in repairing clothes and accessories. The main purpose of textile glue is to seal the edges and seams of clothing, as well as for strengthening the cloth, which is especially important for high-quality materials that are very sensitive to damage. Glue can also be useful in the repair of fine tears, which appear on the fabric in various ways.

Textile glue dries quickly, has a low viscosity and can be handled with an iron at a very high temperature. The process is simple: after applying the glue on both sides of the tear and covering it with a piece of fabric or tape in a matching color, we fix it with an iron at a high temperature. However, depending on its make, there are also glues that need to dry out in air before being fixed with an iron.

The advantage of using adhesive tape over regular tape is that it is longer lasting and does not lose its stickiness over time. In contrast to sewing stitches, textile glue does not require any expert knowledge or sewing skills; it just needs to be applied properly so that it will not become visible from the outside.
