Characteristics to Consider: Buying Guide

Make sure you spend lots of time, thoughts and research before buying your new sewing machine. I agree that you should purchase the best quality machine you can afford, but like everything else it has to be tailored to what you will need.

You need to make sure you take into account factors like the best way to get your stitches in, what type of project you’re working on, and even the size of the machine itself. All of these factors are important in picking out your next sewing machine.

When deciding to purchase a machine for your business, the following considerations should be made:

Fabric or Material Type

Every sewing machine is specially designed to do certain things and not others. Before you purchase a new one, think about what you want it to do most and then purchase the perfect type for your needs.

More importantly, think about how heavy of material you plan on sewing. It’s important to know that not all machines are capable of handling harsher materials like leather.

To be sure you’ve found the perfect machine for you, make sure it has a strong motor to handle nearly any project. Some machines are designed with larger arms for handling bigger projects like blankets or parachutes.

It’s important to first establish what you’re making, before purchasing the product.

Quickness and Agility

If you have a small business that requires fast production of merchandise, a sewing machine is a great investment. Fast models can sew anywhere from 1000-5500 stitches per minute.

Though speed is important, don’t humiliate yourself by opting for an inferior quality product because of your time constraints. Some machines may work at a rapid rate but produce low-quality results.

Size and Ease of Use

When buying a sewing machine, you should decide carefully what your needs will be and shop accordingly. There are different types of machines available depending on what type of projects you’ll be sewing.

Machines differ from one another, but they all usually have a single pedal or lever that you can use to switch between the different functions. Make sure to choose one based on what you find most comfortable.

If you’re planning to find an industrial machine that can help you handle more difficult to reach areas on your material, cylinder beds may be the best option.

Choosing the right sewing machine can be an arduous task, as there are a lot of options. Choosing a “general-purpose” type is always good to know in advance. There are also “flat-bed” and “post-bed” types, which offer better visibility and stability for certain types of sewing.

Final Words

Industrial sewing machines are the best for heavy fabric work. They’re a great choice for sewers who require speed and durability.

In our opinion, the best sewing machine for heavy fabric is Brother CS6000i Sewing Machine. This computerized sewing machine has a unique layout and design which allows me to complete any sewing task. From sewing thick denim jeans to sewing thick quilting fabrics, this Brother CS6000i is definitely the best choice for you.

FAQ

What needle should I use for thick fabric?

Most needle manufacturers recommend using a sharp, sturdy needle with a large eye. If you are using thicker fabric, like denim or canvas, my suggestion is to use an embroidery needle.

A common recommendation for thick fabrics is the size 16-18 Bambi® Cordonnet silk thread. And, it gives awesome output of my work.

How can I change the needle in an industrial sewing machine?

There are many ways I change the needle in an industrial sewing machine.

The first thing I do is remove the bobbin case from the machine and then unscrew or open up the needle plate on top of it. There will be a screw holding the needle in place, so take that out and set it aside for now.

Next, I  insert a new spool of thread into your bobbin case and put it back into my machine’s mechanism. Make sure that there is no tension on my  thread before putting it back into its proper place! Once this is done, re-attach the old needle and screw onto it. Now make sure that everything is set as I want before replacing the needle plate screws with a new set of ones that have been pre-threaded with thin needles (make sure they’re threaded through their holes!).

How To Change The Needle On An Industrial Sewing Machine – Reliable 3300SD Single Needle

Why does my sewing machine skip stitches on thick fabric?

From many years of using this machine , I learned some key points why my sewing machine skips stitches on thick fabric, which I am sharing here one by one.

The most common cause of skipped stitches is the bobbin not being wound properly.

There are also other causes like thread tension, tension control, stitch length and stitch width. In addition, there  may be some other reasons such as:

– It’s probably a thread jam.

– The needle is probably bent.

– You need to lubricate the machine with oil or sewing machine oil.

– The needle is too close to the edge of the fabric.

– The bobbin is not threaded correctly.

– The thread tension is too tight or loose.

What kind of thread do you use for an industrial sewing machine?

There are many different types of thread that I used for industrial sewing machines. Some common types of thread include:

-Backing: This is the thickest and heaviest type of thread and is used to sew upholstery, heavy fabrics, leather, and felt.

Threads: This is a thinner variety of thread with a medium thickness which makes it perfect for lightweight fabrics like denim or linen.

-Aramid: Aramid is an ultra strong synthetic fiber, which is typically woven into Kevlar, to make super strong threads,  for machine use in applications such as textiles, fabric processing, and other textile industries.

I use all of those threads as per my  sewing requirements.

What is an industrial grade sewing machine?

An industrial grade sewing machine is a heavy duty, robust sewing machine with many features that are typically found on more expensive machines. These features include:

  • A motor which has enough power to handle heavy-duty work like leather and denim.
  • Heavy duty metal gears for durability and long life.
  • Tension controls which make it easy to change the stitch length without having to rethread the machine.
  • A speed control for slow stitching and fast stitching speeds in both forward and reverse modes.
  • It has durable construction which means it will last longer than other machines in the market.
  • It has adjustable tension so you can control how tight or loose you want your stitches to be.
  • You can use it for multiple purposes like cutting fabric and attaching zippers without any hassle.

What is the difference between a home and industrial sewing machine?

Undoubtedly, they should and must have differences. And, the general name ( home and industrial) is indicating to us that home refers to easy and industrial refers to robust.

  1. The difference between a home and industrial sewing machine is the type of sewing they are designed for.
  2. A home sewing machine is used to sew clothes at home, while an industrial sewing machine is typically used in a factory setting to sew large amounts of cloth together.
  3. A home sewing machine is one that can be used for all your sewing needs, whereas an industrial sewing machine is made to be stronger and more durable.
  1. Industrial machines are typically bigger and have a higher stitch capacity.
  2. They also tend to be easier to clean and require less maintenance. Industrial machines are designed with industrial sewing in mind, such as heavy-duty construction use or industrial work environments where they may need to sew in wet conditions or at high speeds.

What is the difference between an industrial sewing machine and a traditional home sewing machine?

From my workshop, I observe these two machines which separate these two machines from each other and get some nuances. Let;s explore those differences:

– Industrial sewing machines are used in factories.

– Traditional home sewing machines are used by people who sew for a hobby or to make clothes.

– Industrial sewing machines are designed to sew heavy duty materials.

– Traditional home sewing machines are designed to sew lightweight fabrics.

– Industrial sewing machines are more powerful and have a wider range of stitches.

  1. They are made to handle heavy duty work.
  2. They can sew through thicker materials, such as leather or vinyl.
